Amtrak passengers will be able to choose their preferred seats on trains with assigned seats as part of an overhaul of the rail system’s app. Other enhancements include:

  • Train status and schedule adjustments: Displays train status and schedule adjustments on the reservation when the screen launches.
  • Station-to-station train tracker: Shows how the train is progressing in relation to stations along its route. The tracker is also available on Amtrak.com.

  • Upfront seat selection: Available on all Acela trains as well as Business Class on the Northeast Regional, Palmetto, Vermonter and Carolinian.
  • New My Trips tab: Provides access to active trips on a single, convenient screen. Active trips will automatically show if there is a reservation that day. My Trips also allows customers to tap among active, upcoming and past trips.
  • Flexible trip modification: Allows modification of a part of a trip. This new feature makes adjusting travel even easier while keeping the best available fares.
  • Redesigned home screen: Allows customers to separate marketing messaging from tickets.

Eliot Hamlisch, chief commercial officer, said the rail line has listened to customers and improved the app’s design and functionality for a better experience. The updates, he said, “make it even easier for customers to focus on their journey, with more convenient access to tickets, train status and more while they’re on the go.”
