ANA Holdings (ANAHD), which operates ANA and two other carriers in Japan, announced it has ordered more than 70 new aircraft in anticipation of the future growth in passenger demand. By 2030, according to the announcement, the company will have 320 aircraft, including about 120 Boeing 787 planes.
In anticipation of strong Asia-North America demand and the expansion of Narita International Airport in Tokyo, ANAHD will order 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Available seat kilometers (ASK) on international routes is expected to increase by about 150% between 2023 and 2030.
To adapt to future changes in the domestic business environment, the company is ordering 20 Embraer 100-seat E190-E2 aircraft, to be used for the first time in Japan. By introducing the latest engines and technologies, said the announcement, the ANA brand will achieve low fuel consumption and noise emissions and will also reduce operating costs in pursuit of a flexible supply-demand balance on domestic routes over the medium to long term. This equipment is scheduled to be introduced in fiscal year 2028.
In addition to the above, ANAHD will place an order for 14 additional Airbus A321neo aircraft and 12 Boeing 737-8 aircraft (eight confirmed orders and four options) to update the current fleets. Also, the company will finalize options for five Boeing 787-9’s and 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, both previously announced.
